PIMD’s story began in 2003 when Dr. Mahesan Kandaiya decided to help a village school in his ancestral village in Alaveddy in Jaffna. Within months, the organisation was established, and at the request of the local education authorities, our first teacher training course was conducted in Kilinochchi. Within 12 months a project for one school had grown to 50 and the journey was well underway. That first program was designed for Grades 1 and 2. English teachers were trained in the North and East, computers provided to schools, and syllabus for English published twelve months before the Government syllabus.
