PIMD’s online teacher training courses are now being offered through the University of Colombo – Faculty of Arts (Extension Programmes – https://arts.cmb.ac.lk/free-short-courses-for-teachers…/ ). This partnership represents more than institutional hosting. It signals growing recognition that high-quality, research-aligned teacher development is essential if we are serious about improving English literacy outcomes across Sri Lanka.
For years, we have worked to bridge research and classroom practice — supporting teachers to move from theory to confident, explicit instruction in literacy skills for English. Seeing this work now positioned within a national university framework is both affirming and strategic.
Most importantly, this creates wider access for teachers who are committed to strengthening their professional knowledge and transforming student reading outcomes.
If you are an English teacher, school leader, or education stakeholder interested in evidence-based literacy instruction, we invite you to explore the program, now offered through three State Universities: University of Jaffna, South Eastern University of Sri Lanka, and University of Colombo.
