PIMD formally launched the Lotus English Literacy Program in Trincomalee in July 2011 with the first teacher training course conducted by the PIMD team at the Provincial Department of Education, Orrs Hill, Trincomalee. The team was led by Ms. Emma Cardenzana, an experienced primary teacher from Australia. Teachers attending the course learnt how to teach reading lessons to whole classes and small groups and how to assess student reading skills development.
