Our University accredited online short course “Teaching Language and Reading Comprehension” hosted by the University of Colombo, has been updated to run as a fully self-directed online course. This course is designed for primary and secondary English teachers in Sri Lankan schools, as well as RESC staff, English ADEs, ISAs, and other Master Trainers. You will learn about the latest methods for literacy instruction based on ‘the science of reading’ including how to activate students’ background knowledge before reading, when and how to explicitly teach vocabulary for reading, developing syntax awareness for complex sentence structures, and how to infer deeper meaning from texts beyond what is literally stated. This is the second course in the PIMD Lotus English Literacy curriculum. Teachers who pass this course are then eligible to participate in the third corse on guided reading.

On successful completion, participants will receive a certificate from the University of Colombo and PIMD.
