We know that phonics as part of literacy instruction is Government policy in all English-speaking countries but what about non-English speaking countries? Well in Asia, phonics is also taught in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and South Korean schools. It is also making inroads in Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam and India. The Singapore Government for example offers courses on phonics for teachers and parents through its onePA agency.
