SUMMARY:Phonics Lesson Planning Refresher
DESCRIPTION:This seminar is for English teachers who have completed the PIMD course on Teaching Phonological Awareness and Phonics for English. As the new school year starts\, we decided to give you a quick refresher on the Lotus phonics lesson plan and the logic behind each step in the lesson structure: how do we help students remember the symbol that goes with a sound? how do blending and segmenting help them read? how do spelling patterns help with word recognition? what is encoding and how do we test this skill? in what order should we teach the writing practice book? All of these questions will be answered so that you can plan engaging and effective lessons in 2025! Join the seminar with this Zoom link and passcode: \nJoin Zoom Meeting\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/81654120441?pwd=CameEbaYMAnbgYAagre712hSG9e5dk.1 \nMeeting ID: 816 5412 0441\nPasscode: 841331

SUMMARY:Seminar on Differentiating Instruction for Reading
DESCRIPTION:“Differentiated teaching refers to methods teachers use to extend the knowledge and skills of every student in every class\, regardless of their starting point.” (Victoria State Government 2020:28). How do you do this in a reading lesson when you are teaching a class of 35+ students of mixed ability all together? When should you do small group teaching and how should you group your students – by ability or interest or …? In this seminar we explain what is differentiated instruction\, why is it important for reading lessons and how it is done. We use the Lotus reading lesson procedure to demonstrate techniques for differentiation in a whole class setting and discuss how you can supplement this with some small group sessions to help struggling readers while offering challenging activities to other groups. This topic is part of the Lotus Reading Program online course which will be offered mid-year. \nJoin the seminar with this Zoom link and passcode: \nJoin Zoom Meeting\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/81245132592?pwd=Mfdqs0xbUFzsgtrbDiIJvocQqQItbh.1 \nMeeting ID: 812 4513 2592\nPasscode: 789442
