SUMMARY:Online Course: The Lotus Reading Program
DESCRIPTION:The Lotus Reading Program course is for teachers who have already completed the previous two courses in our curriculum. This course demonstrates how to incorporate into class reading lesson explicit instruction in phonics and language comprehension. It also introduces the cocnept of differentiated instruction so all students are supported in a lesson\, and grouping strategies for working with small groups who need extra support. \nThis course is by invitation only. To join this course\, teachers need to have passed the prior two courses in the curriculum. It is a seven week course with three written assignments.  This course is designed for primary and junior secondary English teachers in Sri Lankan schools\, as well as RESC staff\, English ADEs\, ISAs\, and other Master Trainers. \nFor more information about this course and our curriculum visit our website. \nThis is a free (no cost) course conducted completely online through South Eastern University of Sri Lanka (SEUSL). On successful completion\, participants will receive a certificate from the University and PIMD.

In this course we show you how to develop your students’ comprehension skills for reading\, while reading. There are four main skill areas: drawing on background knowledge to build knowledge and understanding\, developing vocabulary breadth and depth\, being aware of syntax and syntax markers to understand sentences\, and being able to look beyond the literal text to infer meaning and buold a mental model of the overall text. \nThis course is by invitation only for eligible teachers.
