SUMMARY:Online Course: Teaching Language and Reading Comprehension
DESCRIPTION:This course on Teaching Language and Reading Comprehension is for teachers who have already completed the previous the companion course in our curriculum (Teaching Phonological Awareness and Phonics for English). In this course we show you how to develop your students’ comprehension skills for reading\, while reading. There are four main skill areas: drawing on background knowledge to build knowledge and understanding\, developing vocabulary breadth and depth\, being aware of syntax and syntax markers to understand sentences\, and being able to look beyond the literal text to infer meaning and buold a mental model of the overall text. \nThis course is by invitation only for eligible teachers. It is a six week course with five written assignments.  This course is designed for primary and secondary English teachers in Sri Lankan schools\, as well as RESC staff\, English ADEs\, ISAs\, and other Master Trainers. \nFor more information about this course and our curriculum visit our website. \nThis is a free (no cost) course conducted completely online through South Eastern University of Sri Lanka (SEUSL). On successful completion\, participants will receive a certificate from the University and PIMD.

DESCRIPTION:Register here to join next batch of our University accredited online short course “Teaching Phonological Awareness and Phonics for English in Schools”. This online\, self-directed course is designed for primary and junior secondary English teachers in Sri Lankan schools\, as well as RESC staff\, English ADEs\, ISAs\, and other Master Trainers. You will learn about the latest methods for literacy instruction based on ‘the science of reading’ including how to develop awareness of sounds in oral language as a foundation for reading and how to teach students phonics so that they can read more\, faster\, sooner and independently. This is the first course in the PIMD Lotus English Literacy curriculum. Teachers who pass this course are then eligible to participate in other courses. \nFor more information about this course and our curriculum visit our website.
